The dinner bell rings distant across the field, drifting slowly into your awareness. You were so absorbed in your work of the day that you hadn’t noticed the transit of the sun since early afternoon. Suddenly, with the sweet sound of the bell you look up and all at once catch the great and overwhelming beauty of this land, the glory of God’s creation, painted with hues of orange as the sun begins to set.

You finish up this last bit and lay your tools down, surveying the progress of the day. A fine day, slightly more work done than planned. She sees you noticing as you begin to head back across the fields. The bell stops, echoing first in the hills and then in your mind, as you reawaken for the evening, towards home, towards love.

Your hunger awakens as well, awaiting the fruits of your love’s labor, of your labor. She lights the lamp to guide you. The sky reddens quickly behind you as you head with certitude towards the light.
